Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 2026

At Grade AI, Inc. ("we," "our," or "us"), privacy is at the core of our technology. Because we serve the educational sector, we understand the critical importance of protecting student data and complying with data privacy laws such as FERPA.

The information below serves as a high-level overview of our privacy principles.

For institutional compliance and IT security assessments (including HECVAT requirements), you may refer to our comprehensive legal documentation (PDF).

1. Product Privacy (Grade AI Platform)

Grade AI is fundamentally designed as a "Local AI" solution. This architectural choice means we approach product data privacy by simply not possessing your data.

  • Zero Data Retention by Grade AI: When you use the Grade AI hardware appliance or our isolated Private VPS deployments to scan and analyze student assignments, none of that data is transmitted to, stored by, or accessible to Grade AI corporate servers.
  • No AI Training on Your Data: We absolutely do not use your students’ exams, answers, or custom rubrics to train, retrain, or fine-tune our base AI models.
  • FERPA & Institutional Compliance: Because your student data is processed entirely within your controlled local hardware or securely isolated tenant environment, utilizing Grade AI inherently fulfills the strictest institutional security and FERPA requirements.

(Note for Cloud/SaaS deployments): For users participating in our Cloud/SaaS tier, data is processed on our secure, encrypted servers strictly for the purpose of generating your immediate grading results. It is never leaked to external third-party APIs (like OpenAI or Google) and is never used for model training.
